Rain began to pour heavily outside against the large glass office windows.
David ran down the grand staircase as fast as he could go.
He called his security guards at the front gate right away.
David: Did you see which way Clara went when she left?
Security Guard: She walked down the main road on foot, sir.
David: Send two cars to look for her right now!
David grabbed his heavy rain jacket and ran out into the pouring rain.
The cold water soaked through his clothes in just a few seconds.
He drove his black SUV slowly down the winding drive toward the main road.
The streetlights flickered as thunder rolled across the dark night sky.
David scanned the sidewalk desperately, looking for a woman in a white top.
He knew Clara had no car keys and no phone with her.
She was injured and bleeding in the middle of a heavy storm.
After driving two miles down the road, he spotted a dark figure sitting under a bus stop.
Clara was curling her legs into her chest, shivering violently from the cold.
David pulled the SUV over to the curb and jumped out into the rain.
He ran over to the bus shelter and knelt down right in front of her.
David: Clara! Oh God, Clara, I am so sorry!
Clara pulled back in fear, holding her sore face with her hands.
Clara: Please leave me alone, David, I didn't mean for her to fall!
David: I saw the camera footage, Clara. I saw everything that happened.
Clara looked up at him through her tears, her body shaking from the chill.
Clara: You... you saw the man in the house?
David: Yes, you protected my daughter. You saved her life.
David wrapped his heavy warm coat around her wet shoulders gently.
He wiped the rainwater and tears from her bruised cheek very carefully.
David: I was so blind and stupid, please forgive me.
Clara began to cry softly as the relief washed over her heavy chest.
David helped her stand up and guided her safely into the warm passenger seat.
He knew he had to make things right with her no matter what it took.
