Hidden Behind the Flag

A Father Finds His Son Crying on the Marble Floor

David stepped past Evelyn and walked straight toward the fireplace wall.

Evelyn rushed forward quickly to try and block his path.

Evelyn: Stop searching through my personal things right now!

David: This is my father's house, Evelyn, not yours.

He gently but firmly brushed past her emerald green shoulder.

He reached out and pulled back the heavy fabric flag.

The dull steel face of the wall safe sat revealed behind it.

David pulled his primary house key from his inner jacket pocket.

He inserted the master key directly into the electronic lock override.

Evelyn: You have no right to open that safe!

David: I own everything inside these four walls.

The heavy mechanical bolt clicked loudly inside the metal door.

David pulled the safe door open with a sharp turn.

Inside sat several stacks of legal folders and financial documents.

He reached in and pulled out a thick leather-bound folder.

The gold lettering on the front read estate trust fund agreement.

David opened the folder and began scanning the typed pages quickly.

His brow furrowed deeper as he read the modified clauses.

David: Why are Leo's trust fund papers inside your personal safe?

Evelyn: I was reviewing them with my lawyer last week.

David: You do not have authorization to modify my son's trust!

He flipped to the signature page at the very back.

A forged signature of his own name sat right above the notary line.

David felt his blood turn icy cold inside his veins.

David: You forged my signature to transfer his inheritance!

Evelyn backed away slowly toward the center of the study.

Evelyn: That money should belong to our future family, David!

David: That money was left to Leo by his late mother!

Evelyn: He is just a little boy who does not need millions!

David: You married me just to steal my family's wealth!

Evelyn's polished act completely fell apart in an instant.

Her face twisted into an expression of sheer greedy malice.

Evelyn: You were too blind to see what was right before you!

David: I was blind, but now I see everything clearly.

He tucked the legal documents tightly under his left arm.

He pulled his smartphone out of his suit coat pocket.

Evelyn: Who are you calling at this hour?

David: I am calling my family attorney and the police department.

Evelyn: You would ruin my life over a stupid boy?!

David looked at her with total disappointment and cold disgust.

David: I am protecting my son from a criminal stranger.

He hit the speed dial button for his senior lawyer.

Evelyn lunged forward to grab the phone out of his hand.

David stepped back smoothly, dodging her desperate reaching fingers.

David: Arthur, I need you at my house immediately.
