Thirty minutes later, severe red and blue lights flashed outside the front entrance.
Richard unlocked the study door and walked out into the central foyer calmly.
Two police officers entered the house alongside Arthur, the family attorney.
Vanessa walked down the grand stairs, dressed in a warm jacket, carrying a purse.
She stopped when she saw the uniformed officers standing near the front door.
"What is the meaning of this, Richard?" Vanessa asked with a shaking voice.
"The police are here to investigate what happened earlier today," Richard answered coldly.
"I told you it was an accident! You are wasting everyone's time!" she yelled.
Arthur stepped forward, holding the manila folder that contained the forged papers.
"We found your fraudulent legal documents inside the home safe, Vanessa," Arthur said.
"That is a lie! Richard put those there himself!" she shouted back defensively.
The lead police officer pulled out a small tablet to review the security file.
Richard handed him the digital drive containing the clear high-definition video footage.
The officer played the video while Vanessa watched with growing terror in her eyes.
The footage clearly showed her intentional actions on the second-floor balcony balcony.
"Vanessa Miller, you are under arrest for attempted endangerment and fraud," the officer stated.
"No, wait! You don't understand the full situation!" she cried out wildly.
The officer stepped forward and placed heavy silver handcuffs onto her wrists securely.
Vanessa struggled against the officer, her expensive jacket slipping off her shoulders.
"Richard, please tell them to stop! We can talk about this!" she pleaded desperately.
"You lost your chance to talk the moment you put Lily in danger," he replied.
The officers led the crying woman out through the heavy double front doors.
The loud click of the front door closing marked the end of her presence.
Arthur placed a gentle hand on Richard's shoulder to offer his quiet support.
"She will face full legal consequences for everything she did," Arthur promised him.
"Thank you, Arthur. I just want my home to be safe again," Richard said.
He turned back toward the study where little Lily was waking up peacefully.
