Two days later Mark returned to the grand mansion with his legal team.
Two city police officers walked behind him up the front steps.
Mark unlocked the large wooden double doors and stepped into the foyer.
Evelyn was sitting in the living room sipping a glass of wine.
She looked up in shock as the group entered the high ceiling room.
Evelyn: Mark, what is the meaning of bringing police into my house?
Mark: This is no longer your house, Evelyn.
Evelyn: I am your legal wife and I have rights here!
Mark: You gave up those rights the moment you touched my child.
The lead police officer stepped forward holding an official court order.
Officer: Mrs. Vance, we have a warrant for your immediate arrest.
Evelyn: This is ridiculous! On what grounds?
Mark's Lawyer: Grand larceny, fraud, and child endangerment.
Evelyn set her wine glass down so hard the stem nearly snapped.
Her calm rich socialite mask began to crumble very fast.
Evelyn: You cannot prove a single word of these crazy lies!
Mark pulled out a portable tablet from his leather briefcase.
He pressed play on the crystal clear balcony camera video file.
The footage showed Evelyn deliberately pulling Lily toward the loose railing ledge.
It showed her stepping back instead of grabbing the child's hands.
Evelyn stared at the screen with her mouth frozen wide open.
Mark: You knew that railing pin was missing from the wood.
Evelyn: It was an accident! I lost my grip on her dress!
Mark: The video shows you never tried to grip her dress at all.
The officer stepped closer and produced a pair of steel handcuffs.
Officer: Hands behind your back right now, ma'am.
Evelyn: Mark, please! Think about our reputation in the city!
Mark: My only priority is protecting my daughter from you.
The officers placed her in cuffs while reading her official rights.
She screamed loud insults as they led her down the hallway.
Mark stood near the large flag painting on the grand wall.
He felt the heavy weight of betrayal lifting off his shoulders.
