Later that afternoon, Arthur and Clara accompanied Sarah back to her modest suburban house on the outskirts of Dallas. The small home was neat and simple, a stark contrast to the massive gated mansion Arthur had grown up in. Sarah led them into her quiet living room, where stacks of legal folders and letters rested on a small wooden table. Lily was resting comfortably on the soft sofa, wrapped in a warm pink blanket, fast asleep after her scary afternoon at the hospital. Sarah handed Arthur a blue folder filled with certified bank statements, court summons, and official letters from Margaret’s legal representatives. The paper trail showed a continuous effort to force Sarah into financial distress so she would sign away her daughter’s legal rights to the estate.
Sarah: She sent letters threatening lawsuits if I ever came near your family events or business meetings.
Clara: That is why you didn't answer my wedding invitations, isn't it? She blocked you from reaching me.
Sarah: She told me you wanted nothing to do with us anymore because of our family background.
Arthur: I had no idea she was doing this behind my back. She took total control after Dad passed.
Clara: I am so sorry, Sarah. I should have checked on you myself instead of trusting Margaret’s word.
Arthur sat down at the table, running his fingers through his short hair as he carefully read through every single letter. The document proved that Margaret had used the family business account to pay off private debts while withholding the trust fund meant for little Lily. It was clear evidence of illegal financial mismanagement that could easily lead to serious criminal charges. Arthur looked up at his bride and his sister-in-law, his mind made up about what needed to happen next.
Arthur: We are taking all of these records directly to the district attorney tomorrow morning.
Sarah: Are you sure you want to do that? It will cause a huge public scandal for your company.
Arthur: Justice for my father and for Lily is more important than any business reputation or high-society name.
Clara: He is right, Sarah. We are family, and we are going to fix this together right now.
Sarah wiped a tear from her cheek, a soft smile finally returning to her tired face as she felt the warm support of her sister again. The heavy burden she had carried alone for two long years was finally beginning to lift.
