Evelyn walked down the long hallway toward the private bride suite.
She held a beautiful bouquet of red roses in her hands.
Her simple dress was neat and carefully ironed for today.
She had taken the morning bus across town to reach venue.
She did not want to miss her only son's wedding day.
Though she never got a formal written card, she came anyway.
She assumed the mail had simply been delayed by mistake.
She wanted to hug Jessica and welcome her to the family.
Evelyn knocked gently on the wooden door of the room.
Jessica: Who is standing out there right now?
Evelyn: It is Evelyn, Mark's mother, my dear.
Jessica pulled the door open with a sudden quick jerk.
Her eyes narrowed sharply as she looked at the woman.
Jessica: Why are you standing right here in this hallway?
Evelyn: I came to bring you these red roses today.
Jessica: You were not supposed to show up here at all!
Evelyn: I wanted to see my son get married today, Jessica.
Jessica: You are going to ruin my perfect day right now!
Jessica stepped out into the hallway corridor with fierce anger.
She raised her voice loudly so people turned to look.
Jessica: Get away from me and leave this building instantly!
Evelyn: Please, my dear, just take these fresh flowers first.
Jessica reached out abruptly and shoved the roses away roughly.
The red flower petals scattered across the bright marble floor.
Evelyn stumbled back three steps in complete shock and confusion.
Her boots slipped slightly on the smooth white marble surface.
She caught her balance against the wall with shaking hands.
Jessica: Do not touch me or talk to me again!
Evelyn: Why are you being so unkind to me today?
Jessica: You do not belong in a place like this!
Guests in the main lobby started looking up in silence.
The loud shouting echoed clearly across the tall white hall.
Jessica raised her hand toward the front exit doors angrily.
Jessica: Leave right now before I call the security guards!
Evelyn: These flowers were meant to show my real love.
Evelyn gathered her courage and held out one single flower.
Jessica slapped the stem out of her hand with fury.
The sharp action made a loud sound in the hall.
Evelyn lost her balance completely and fell to the floor.
She sat on the marble, clutching her fallen rose bouquet.
Tears filled her gentle eyes as she looked up helplessly.
Evelyn: These roses were truly meant for you, my child.
Jessica stood over her with cold indifference in her eyes.
She did not care that guests were watching the scene.
She wanted the old woman gone before Mark noticed anything.
However, quick heavy footsteps were already rushing down the hall.
