Mark turned his back on his disgraced relatives and walked back to the car.
The security guard held the rear door open as Mark approached the SUV.
Lily was sitting quietly on the soft leather seat inside the cool vehicle.
She held a small glass of fresh orange juice that the driver had offered her.
Lily: Is everything okay outside now, Daddy?
Mark climbed into the car and sat down next to his little girl.
He pulled a soft cotton towel from his travel bag to clean her hands.
Mark: Everything is going to be just fine from now on, sweetie.
He gently wiped the sauce stains off her navy dress and hands.
Lily: Are we going back to our house in the city now?
Mark: No, we are going to stay right here in this big house.
Lily looked out the tinted window toward the large stone mansion.
Lily: But Grandma said I wasn't allowed inside the main house.
Mark smiled warmly and kissed the top of Lily's head softly.
Mark: Grandma will not be living here anymore after today.
Lily's eyes brightened as she looked into her father's loving face.
Lily: Can we have a real picnic on the grass later then?
Mark: We can have any kind of picnic you want, whenever you want.
The SUV pulled up the driveway toward the grand front entrance of the home.
Outside, workers were already helping clear away the shattered glass and debris.
Eleanor and Victoria stood by the side entrance with their luggage packed tightly.
They watched silently as Mark stepped out of the car with Lily in his arms.
Mark carried his daughter proudly up the stone steps into her new home.
