An hour later, Victoria walked down the grand staircase carrying two small suitcases.
Her smug arrogant expression had completely vanished, replaced by bitter defeat.
Victoria: My lawyer will contact your office before the end of this business week.
Arthur: Tell your lawyer to direct all correspondence straight to Mr. Harrison.
The security officers opened the heavy front doors and escorted Victoria outside.
The heavy oak doors clicked shut behind her, leaving the house in sudden peace.
Arthur turned to his daughter and pulled her into a warm protective hug.
Arthur: I am so deeply sorry you had to endure her cruelty, Lily.
Lily: I was so scared you would take her side over mine, Dad.
Arthur: I will always stand by you against anyone who tries to hurt you.
Arthur took his daughter by the hand and walked into the grand kitchen.
He opened the cleaning closet and threw away the coarse cleaning rags and buckets.
Arthur: Tomorrow morning, our original house staff will return to their regular jobs.
Lily: Really? You are bringing back Sarah and Thomas from the agency?
Arthur: Yes, I already called the agency while Victoria was packing her clothes upstairs.
Lily smiled for the first time since Arthur had walked through the front door.
Lily: Can we open Mom's wooden lockbox together right now, Dad?
Arthur: Nothing would make me happier than sharing her memories with you right now.
They sat down together at the large wooden kitchen table under the warm chandelier light.
Lily unlocked the small brass latch on the wooden box with a tiny key.
Inside lay the sparkling diamond engagement ring along with handwritten letters and family pictures.
Arthur picked up a photograph of his late wife holding Lily as a baby.
Arthur: Your mother loved you more than anything else in this world, Lily.
Lily: I know, Dad, and she would be proud of how you protected me today.
Arthur wiped a stray tear from his cheek and smiled warmly at his daughter.
Arthur: From now on, our home will always be a place of safety and trust.
Lily: Thank you for coming home early today, Dad.
Arthur: Coming home to you was the best decision I ever made in my life.
