Lifting The Burden

A CEO Hit My Daughter At A Luxury Charity Gala

Elena dug her fingers under the edge of the heavy marble slab, ignoring the sharp pain in her hands. Deep inside her, a mother's fierce strength took over, giving her power she never knew she possessed. She pulled upward with everything she had, her breath coming in fast, ragged gasps. The stone scraped loudly against the polished floor, making a harsh grinding sound that echoed across the silent room. Step by step, inch by inch, Elena managed to lift the heavy slab off the floor. She used her thigh to prop up the edge so it wouldn't fall back down on her child. With one final, powerful surge of force, she slid the heavy marble board completely off to the side, where it hit the floor with a loud bang. Lily lay there on her side, clutching her bruised face and crying softly into her small hands. Her pink dress was covered in white stone dust, and a bright red handprint was clearly visible on her pale cheek.

Elena immediately pulled Lily up into her arms, wrapping her tightly in a warm, protective embrace. She held her daughter close against her chest, feeling the little girl's chest heaving with deep, frantic sobs. Elena rocked her back and forth under the massive American flag hanging above them, tears streaming down her own face. She kissed the top of Lily's head over and over, trying to soothe the trembling child. Lily pressed her face into her mother's grey dress, her voice small and broken as she tried to speak. She sobbed that she didn't take the ring and that she was just looking for her pink crayon. Elena felt a sharp pain in her heart at those words, knowing her daughter was completely innocent. She rubbed Lily's back gently, whispering sweet words of comfort to reassure her that she was safe now. The contrast between the mother's pure love and the cold indifference of the surrounding crowd was striking in the bright daylight.

While Elena comforted her crying child, Carter stood just a few feet away with his arms crossed over his chest. He showed no remorse or concern for the injured little girl who was still shaking in her mother's arms. Instead, he spoke in a loud, arrogant voice, claiming that poor people should not be allowed into high-class events. He demanded that security carry both of them out of the building immediately to protect his reputation and event. Some of the guests began to murmur among themselves, feeling uncomfortable with Carter's cruel behavior, but nobody spoke up against him. Carter was a billionaire with endless legal resources, a powerful board of directors, and a high-priced divorce lawyer who handled all his personal messes. People were afraid of losing their business connections or social standing if they crossed him. Carter sneered down at Elena, telling her to take her brat and leave before he called the police to arrest them for theft. His cold words filled the air with deep injustice.
