Mark stared at his wife with shock.
Victoria did not say a word now.
Her eyes shifted toward the open study.
Mark stood up with his baby boy.
He kept one arm around sweet Chloe.
The big house was silent again now.
Mark smelled a strange sharp chemical odor.
It came from the dark study door.
He took three steps toward that room.
Victoria moved quickly to block his way.
Her voice sounded sharp and very tense.
Victoria: Mark, please do not go in there.
Mark looked at her with narrow eyes.
Mark: What is going on in my house?
Victoria reached out to touch his arm.
Victoria: I was just fixing a simple mistake.
Chloe pulled on her father's suit coat.
Her small hand was shaking very hard.
Chloe: She brought men into your office.
Mark stopped and looked down at Chloe.
Mark: What men were here today, Chloe?
Chloe: Strange men with big dark bags.
Victoria gasped and grabbed Chloe's arm gently.
Victoria: Chloe, stop telling silly tall tales.
Mark stepped firmly between his wife and daughter.
He pushed the study door wide open.
The large room was in total mess.
Papers were scattered across the wood floor.
The big wall safe was open wide.
Important legal documents were completely gone now.
The family trust papers were missing too.
Mark felt his head start to spin.
This money belonged to his sweet children.
His late mother had left that inheritance.
It was set aside for Chloe's medical fees.
It was also meant for Leo's future.
Mark turned around to face Victoria again.
His voice was low and very dangerous.
Mark: Where are the legal papers, Victoria?
Victoria stepped back toward the main front door.
Victoria: I had to protect our financial future.
Mark: You took my children's trust fund money!
Chloe hugged her crutches closer to herself.
Chloe: She locked us in the back room.
Mark looked back at his little daughter.
Mark: She locked you inside that room?
Chloe: Leo started to cry from hunger.
Chloe: She told me to make him stop.
Chloe wiped another big tear away now.
Chloe: I climbed through the small window.
Mark felt immense pride and strong anger.
His young daughter was so very brave.
She had carried her brother on crutches.
She had saved him from total neglect.
Victoria looked around the high white room.
She saw that her grand scheme failed.
She reached into her small designer purse.
She pulled out a set of car keys.
Mark walked forward with his baby close.
Mark: Do not step out that door.
