The Voice From The Porch

A Bitter Grandmother Tried Hiding The Family Will In Texas

Lily wiped her eyes and took two slow steps down the wooden porch stairs.

Lily: Daddy, why are you shouting out near the old water well?

Mark: Everything is okay, sweetheart, stay right there on the porch.

Evelyn: Come here to your grandmother right now, little Lily.

Lily: I want my daddy to hold my hand, Grandma.

Mark walked away from the stone well and headed straight toward his small daughter.

He knelt down on the soft grass and wrapped his arms tightly around her.

Lily placed her head against his shoulder and pointed toward the open backyard gate.

Lily: Grandma locked the playroom door earlier while I was playing blocks.

Mark: What do you mean she locked the door, sweetie?

Lily: She said I had to stay inside until she finished her work.

Mark looked back over his shoulder at Evelyn with a cold sharp glare.

Evelyn stood motionless beside the stone well without saying a single word in defense.

She folded her arms tightly across her dark maroon dress to hide her shaking.

Mark: You locked a three year old child inside a playroom alone?

Evelyn: I needed fifteen minutes without interruption to secure the family papers!

Mark: You crossed a dangerous line today that can never be uncrossed, Evelyn.

Evelyn: I am her grandmother, and I have every legal right to visit!

Mark: You no longer have any right to come onto this property unannounced.

Mark picked up Lily in his arms and carried her safely toward the porch.

He pulled his cell phone from his front pocket with his free right hand.

He dialed the number for his personal divorce lawyer and family trust attorney.

Mark: Hello, David, I need you to file a formal restraining order immediately.

Evelyn: Do not dare call the police or lawyers on your own family!

Mark: You brought this on yourself the moment you locked that interior door.

Evelyn took three quick steps across the grass toward the wooden house porch.

Her polished shoes stumbled slightly on the uneven edge of the flower bed.

She realized that her actions had ruined any chance of staying in Lily's life.
