Mark stepped forward and stood directly between Richard and his sister Sarah.
The morning light reflected off the polished marble tiles beneath their feet.
Mark: You have two hours to pack your personal belongings and leave.
Richard: You cannot legally evict a guest without written notice, Mark.
Mark: You signed a temporary guest agreement when you moved in here.
Mark: Clause nine states immediate termination upon any breach of property safety.
Olivia: Dad, tell him he cannot throw us out like this!
Richard: Mark, this will ruin our professional reputation in the business community.
Mark: You ruined your own reputation through your arrogant and cruel choices.
Sarah took off her gold wedding ring and placed it on the counter.
The ring clicked softly against the hard dark granite counter surface below.
Sarah: My daughter will never feel unsafe or diminished in her home again.
Mia: Does this mean I get to sleep in my room tonight?
Mark: You get the best room in the house starting right now, Mia.
Richard looked at his daughter Olivia, who was now staring at the floor.
Her smug posture had completely vanished under the weight of the moment.
Richard: Fine. We will pack our belongings and depart immediately.
Mark: My estate security guard will watch over your departure process outside.
Richard turned around without another word and walked toward the guest wing.
Olivia followed closely behind her father with her head held down low.
Mark turned back to face his sister and his young niece tenderly.
He kneeled down again to match Mia's eye level near the counter.
Mark: Today we are going to buy you the newest phone available.
Mia: Really? Even though the old one was broken into pieces?
Mark: Really. And we are going to decorate your room together today.
Mia smiled brightly for the very first time since the morning began.
She wrapped her arms around Mark's neck in a warm, tight hug.
Sarah: Thank you for standing up for us when we needed it.
Mark: Family protects each other no matter what obstacles come our way.
