Elena stood tall on the upper landing in front of the giant American flag.
She held out her arms to block Clarissa from dragging Maya away.
Elena: You will not lock this baby in a room, Clarissa!
Clarissa: How dare you address me by my first name, you simple worker!
Clarissa raised her hand and tried to push Elena roughly out of the way.
Elena held her ground firmly and wrapped her arms around little Maya.
She picked up the weeping toddler and held her securely against her shoulder.
Elena: I caught you! You're safe! I've got you, Maya. You're safe now, baby!
Maya buried her wet face into Elena's shoulder, trembling from fear.
Clarissa's face turned red with anger as her authority was completely challenged.
Clarissa: Give me that child right now or you are fired on the spot!
Elena: You do not have the legal authority to fire me without Mr. Vance!
Clarissa: I am his wife, and my word is absolute in this household!
Clarissa stepped forward aggressively and reached out to yank Maya away.
Elena stepped back quickly to protect the child from the sudden movement.
In the tense struggle, the manila envelope fell from beneath Clarissa's arm.
The legal trust papers scattered across the upper marble landing floor.
Elena noticed the official stamp of the family's financial estate lawyer.
Elena: You were stealing Maya's inheritance papers from the private safe!
Clarissa: Shut your mouth and get out of this house this instant!
Clarissa stepped closer and swung her hand to strike Elena's shoulder.
Elena raised her arm, shielded the child, and stood her ground firmly.
Elena: No, please, stop!
The sharp sound of the confrontation echoed loudly through the high mansion ceiling.
Clarissa stumbled back a step, surprised by Elena's brave resistance.
Elena backed away toward the grand staircase with Maya safely in her arms.
She kept her body between the greedy stepmother and the innocent child.
Below in the driveway, the sound of a luxury sedan engine shut off.
Richard had returned early after forgetting important meeting files in his desk.
