David carried Lily into his quiet private office and closed the double doors.
He set her down gently on the soft leather sofa near the corner window.
Lily wiped her wet eyes with the sleeve of her pink wedding dress.
Lily: Are you mad at me, Daddy?
David: I could never be mad at you, my brave little girl.
Lily: I'm sorry I ruined your special wedding day.
David: You didn't ruin anything, sweetie, you saved us from a big mistake.
David sat down beside her and wrapped a warm blanket over her shoulders.
There was a soft knock on the wooden door before Marcus walked inside.
Marcus closed the door firmly behind him and looked at David with serious eyes.
Marcus: Vanessa and her mother are refusing to leave the downstairs main area.
David: Call security and have them escorted outside the property gates.
Marcus: There is something else you need to know before you do that.
David looked up with sharp eyes as Marcus handed him a thin paper folder.
Marcus: My legal team ran a final check on her past accounts this morning.
David: What did they find?
Marcus: Vanessa was deeply in debt before she ever met you last year.
David opened the paper folder and scanned the numbers listed on the page.
There were huge bank loans and unpaid legal bills attached to her old family name.
Her mother had lost their old estate months before Vanessa started dating David.
The entire marriage was a planned deal to clear her massive personal debt.
David: She never cared about building a family with us at all.
Marcus: She only cared about getting access to your trust fund accounts.
David let out a long breath as he closed the dark paper folder tight.
He remembered how eager Vanessa was to sign the final property papers yesterday.
She had insisted on having full control over the house and grounds immediately.
If he had married her today, she would have gained legal rights over everything.
He looked at his small daughter, who was resting her head against a pillow.

Marcus: I will personally hand it to them outside the front gates.
David: Tell them any financial agreement between our families is permanently cancelled.
Marcus nodded quickly and stepped back out into the quiet marble hallway.
David sat beside his daughter and held her small hand in his palm.
